Rise of the Rocky Mountains | How the Earth Was Made (S2, E6) | Full Episode

This episode of *Rise of the Rocky Mountains*, the sixth installment of *How the Earth Was Made* Season 2, chronicles the magnificent geological epic of the Rockies, stretching from Alaska to New Mexico. The film centers on plate tectonics, revealing how the compression of the Pacific Plate thrust ancient seabeds into what is now the backbone of North America, while also weaving in the long-shaping forces of volcanic activity, glacial erosion, and river incision. Its core appeal lies in using 3D animation and on-site scientific fieldwork to recreate the details of the mountain range's "growth" over hundreds of millions of years—such as how the crust fractured and slipped, how sedimentary layers folded and deformed, and why the Rockies are still slowly rising today. It suits viewers interested in geology, nature documentaries, or Earth's evolutionary history, and also works well as a vivid supplement for geography classrooms. Viewing suggestion: it's best watched on a large screen in a quiet environment, as the many cross-section diagrams and simulation animations require close attention; if you're unfamiliar with plate tectonics terminology, it helps to have a map of North America on hand to trace the mountain ranges as you watch, making this "orogeny" spanning hundreds of millions of years easier to grasp. The episode is tightly paced, combining scientific depth with visual spectacle—an excellent gateway into understanding the power of the Earth.
